New Delhi: Work on the Badarpur elevated road, which is supposed to be completed before Commonwealth Games, has now hit a roadblock with some Badarpur residents approaching Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court against land acquisition for the project.
After the SC last month restrained National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) from evicting some residents who occupy nearly 2,000 sq meter land near the elevated road, officials said four more cases on the same ground has been filed in the HC.
Officials said 60% of this land would be needed for the road while the rest would be used for streetscaping. They added that NHAI was seeking legal opinion on the clarity of the issue, keeping in mind the last SC order. They added that since the court gave an exparty decision, now they were seeking an early date to put their case before the court.
Though the 4.4-km elevated road project was scheduled to be completed by December 23 this year, it has been advanced to September to meet Games deadline. ‘‘We are hard pressed for time and even a single-day delay could affect the deadline of the project. We will put our case before the SC,’’ said a senior NHAI official. Once complete, the road will provide signal-free connectivity between Badarpur and Faridabad. Work on the road is nearly 57% complete.
