Home Loan Prepayment Penalty. Some time back RBI had indicated that banks would be required to scrab prepayment penalties. It is this direction, State Bank of India (SBI) has announced removal of prepayment penalty on home loans with immediate effect. The bank had been charging around 2 percent of outstanding principal as penalty if the borrower opted to foreclose the loan.

Whether any other lenders viz HDFC LICHFL have also removed this clause. As per RBI guidelines (as I studied through newspapers) all lenders have to remove this clause.
